When you begin your spiritual journey, one of the first things you do is take a long, honest look at what you can change about yourself. For some it's behavior, for others it's thinking. At the end of it all, we must be willing to rise from who we once were.
Change can take months, even years, depending on the changes that need to occur. We must do the work of inner change in order for it to manifest outwardly. The Phoenix is a great totem animal to adopt while on this journey. This mythical bird has a place in Greek and Chinese legends and represents the sun, resurrection and longevity.
In astrology, the Phoenix is closely attributed to Scorpio. Scorpio is co-ruled by Pluto (transformation) and Mars (goal oriented action). We all have to be able to have the will to change and the Phoenix represents just that. Action oriented change, which means you must put in the work to get the result.
“ The mythical phoenix is destroyed and rises above its own ashes. The immortal being that rises from the ashes of its own funeral, only comes out stronger and more mature than they were before."
Let's be honest here. When you wake up every morning feeling disdain, depression or negativity, who or what do you blame? Is it your job? Your significant other? The neighbors? You? Yes, you. Nine times out of 10, it's you and how you view your world. Be honest with how you feel every morning. However, you're in luck because there's a cure for that if you're willing to give it go.
First thing's first. When you wake up, be grateful. That's step one. If you practice this simple task before starting your day, you will find that you will shift from a negative space to a sense of peace. Peace is what we all want, right?
The intention is to be grateful for that anger, that sadness or that pain. Feel the emotion or emotions, but don't become them. These emotions and sensations are there to let you know that you're still alive. Be grateful for that nosy neighbor, that heinous job and that noisy barking dog. They are music to our physical existence.
After all, that nosy neighbor could be your eyes and ears when you're away from home for an extended amount of time-- And that barking dog could be very well alerting you to some unsavory activity going on near or even on your property while you're home.
Rising above your initial emotions will allow you to transcend your consciousness to a higher state of Being. When you are grateful for the ups and downs of life in equal measure, the ashes become mere fodder for the ultimate rebirth of You.
