The Pitfalls of Perfection and how it leads to Procrastination

Perfection is the enemy of reality. It is an illusion and no matter what we think, things are never quite how we like them to be. Everyone's idea of perfection is subjective. The "perfect' wedding for you could be out in the lilac field with just you, your officiant and your betrothed, while someone else's "perfect" wedding involves the biggest church, the biggest cake and the largest guest list that can rival the population of a small village.

However, what happens when you get so caught up in the details that your wedding, idea or project comes to a screeching halt? Nothing. The ideas, thoughts and epiphanies you have can only come to fruition if you work toward making them real. It doesn't matter how many times you review your list or talk your idea over with your best friend; Until you take the steps to actually bring it into the physical realm, it's ONLY an idea or thought.

"Everything has to be absolutely PERFECT!"

No, it doesn't. If it rains on your wedding day, is the day ruined now? Do you not agree that the perfection of the day lies in the fact that your family members and friends have come from far and wide to share the day with you? If you want to launch a new product and you've done all you can, why sit on releasing it because you believe no one will like it? More often than not, that's just your fear talking to you. There are 7 billion people on the planet on any given day and SOMEBODY out there is going to like what you have to offer. Believe me, if somebody can make millions by selling a Pet Rock back in the 70's, you are well on your way to becoming successful in your own endeavor.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that details and presentation don't matter, because they do. What I AM saying is that if you've got 80% of your project done, the other 20% is going to work itself out as you go forward. The smallest detail can stop you from moving forward. You are the only one who knows what it actually takes to make your product great from beginning to end. However, your consumers, friends and family see the end result that you are giving them--And to them--That's perfection.

Stop procrastinating about the flowers, the product or how you deliver a service. Get out there and fix the issues as they come up. As you move forward in your business you will find that your consumers, friends and family will support you and give you what you need in order to improve. Don't allow perfection to lead you to procrastination. It's a dream killer.
